ADELAIDE
The award-winning Goan film 'Nachom-ia Kumpasar' continues to receive acclaim in Australia, and has also won accolades in Europe by grabbing multiple awards in Milan at the International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema awards announced on Saturday night.
The film won three awards at the International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema, Milan, on Saturday evening, with Bardroy Barretto bagging the Best Director of a Foreign Language Feature Film, Best Original Score for Chris Perry, Ronnie Monsorate and Jacob Pereira and the Best Sound Design for Sanjay Maurya, Allwin Rego and Alok De.
Speaking to The Goan, an elated Bardroy was all praise for the entire team and the hard work, while also thanking the film industry for the continued support.
In Australia, the film was screened in Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth on Sunday, and it received accolades among not just Goans but also Australian film buffs as well.
“Truly enjoyed the movie here in Adelaide. The timeless Chris Perry's compositions and Lorna's magical voice are mesmerizing and will always hold a special place in all Goans hearts,” remarked Adelaide-based Goan Fiona Rodrigues.
Added a new migrant into Adelaide, Agnelo Fernandes, “Viva Goa! Enjoyed the movie and recollected Chris Perry's days in our Dabul parish and Lorna in Sonapur for the annual club feast.”
In Perth, the Goan community turned in large numbers for the screening at Reading Cinemas, Belmont.
“The movie was well received to a full-house by the cine goers who watched the first ever Konkani movie screened in Perth. The climax was at the end of the movie where each one got up and gave a resounding clapping ovation to the film,” said Caesar Pereira, who also hails from Goa.
“Most of the audience watched this movie for the first time and were in awe as they reminisced about Goa and Bombay in the 60s. Many requested a repeat show to be screened in Perth. Some requested for a copy of the songs that they heard in the movie. A Tamilian friend and an Anglo Indian who didn’t know the Konkani language enjoyed the music and boasted that they understood every dialogue in the film. Kudos to the Director and his team for a good movie,” added Pereira.
The film will be screened in Brisbane at Griffith Film School, Brisbane, on November 15 and in Events Cinema, Parramatta, Westfield, Sydney, on December 13, as part of the Australia wide screenings.
