An autopsy into the death of Shravan Devidas Barve (24) in front of his house at Ambede-Nagargao sometime on Monday night has revealed that the youth had died due to asphyxiation caused by forceful compression of the neck.
The autopsy report has strengthened the family’s suspicion of foul play into the death of Shravan.
Shravan’s body was found in front of his house, about 200 metres from the Hanuman temple in Ambede-Nagargao around 9 am on Tuesday.
On Monday night, Shravan's father Devidas, his brother and his mother had gone to live in another house in Honda. Shravan had reportedly gone to a house in the village to watch the IPL match till late on Monday night, before proceeding towards his house.
When Devidas returned to Nagargao in the morning, they were horrified to find Shravan's body lying in front of the gate.
Devidas stated that he had last spoken to Shravan by phone at around 9 pm on Monday.
The door of the house was found open on Tuesday morning and Shravan’s phone was in the house.
Valpoi police has taken Shravan's mobile phone to verify calls on his mobile phone after 11 pm.
North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal told reporters that a special police team has been formed to investigate the incident.
After an autopsy was conducted on Wednesday afternoon, the body was handed over to the family for final rites, which were performed in the evening in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends.
