The Cyber Crime police of Goa police arrested a teenager from Nagpur in connection with Rs 80 lakh digital arrest fraud.
The accused has been identified as Anandkumar Verma, aged 19 years.
As per the details, a 59-year-old Canacona resident was duped after fraudsters, using WhatsApp numbers, posed as NCRB officials, Sahar police staff and a public prosecutor, and claimed a case was registered against him for sending offensive messages against Hindu religion and the government.
The fraudsters claimed that the complainant’s Aadhaar card had been used to obtain a mobile connection and placed him under “digital arrest”, coercing him into transferring Rs 80 lakh.
Police said the arrested accused had received fraudulent funds in linked accounts and further money trail analysis is underway. He has been produced before court and remanded to police custody.
