Rupesh Prabhakar Azgaonkar (45) from the Kanol Karwada area of Nanoda drowned at Morjim beach, and his body was later found floating in the Chapora River near Camurlim.
According to reports, a group of around 30 people had gone on a trip to the Morjim-Pernem beach area. Rupesh Azgaonkar and his family members were also part of the group. After lunch, Rupesh went into the sea for a bath but went missing shortly afterwards.
Members of the group searched for him at Morjim beach, and the search operation continued till late at night, but no trace of him was found. His family later lodged a missing person complaint at the Mandrem Police Station.
On Monday at around 2:30 p.m., locals spotted a body floating in the Chapora River near the Camurlim ferry point. They immediately pulled the body out of the river, called the 108 ambulance service and informed the Colvale Police. A team from Colvale Police visited the spot and identified the deceased as Rupesh Azgaonkar. His family members were informed about the incident. The body has been kept at Mapusa District Hospital for medical and legal formalities.
