Former Congressman and ex-deputy chief minister Dayanand Narvekar is expected to join Nationalist Congress Party and in all likelihood contest from Porvorim constituency.
Sources said that Narvekar would join NCP in days to come and would definitely contest the 2017 assembly polls.
“Dayanand Narvekar's entry into the NCP will take place at the hands of NCP's national President, Sharad Pawar,” a source close to Narvekar said.
On Thursday, senior NCP leader, Praful Patel told The Goan that many senior and winnable leaders would soon join the party.
“I wouldn't like to take any individual’s name. Wait and watch. Many senior leaders who can win an election are expected to join NCP,” Patel said when asked whether Narvekar, the former strongman from Bardez would be admitted into the party.
The former deputy chief minister, Dayanand Navekar told The Goan that he was yet to make up his mind although many parties had approached him. He however, refused to name the parties that had contacted him.
He also said he would definitely throw his hat in the ring and contest the 2017 assembly election in the State.
“I will contest the forthcoming assembly elections. I could contest from Porvorim, while also keeping my options open in Tivim and Aldona,” Narvekar said when asked which constituency he would prefer to contest from.
