Naval officer booked for accident
VASCO: A naval officer has been booked on charges of driving in a rash manner, leading to the death of a fellow naval officer who was walking at Chicalim.
According to the police, one Sanjay Kadwadkar filed a complainant stating that Navy Commander Giduthiri Babu Showri (56) was walking along the road, when Naval Lieutenant Commander Jayant Pradeep Menon (24) drove his Alto car (GA-01-R-9616) in a rash manner near the Ragas gate at INS Hansa and knocked down Showri.
The impact was such that Showri was dragged along the road. He was rushed to a private hospital at Chicalim, where the doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. On receiving information, a police team rushed to the accident site and later to the hospital to conduct investigations.
The police have registered an offence against Menon under Section 279, 304 A of IPC and is investigating the case.
