Navelim biodiversity management panel opens new office

Parish Priest of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim Fr Gabriel Coutinho has stressed on the importance of millets such as Raggi in the form of Ambil and Tizan and its value that has been lost to present-day pizzas.
Fr Gabriel further underscored the need to revive the knowledge of the old people even as he assured all support to the Navelim Bio-diversity Management Committee to conduct and involve students of the schools and college, so that students get first-hand knowledge through outdoor projects and activities.
He was speaking after inaugurating and blessing the new office of the Navelim Biodiversity Management Committee at the Village Panchayat of Navelim.
The audience was touched by the sign of solidarity shown by the NBMC towards the conservation of river Mhadei, presented a poem composed and recited by Sheela and simultaneously expressed in dance form by Sachika Almeida.
The Outgoing Chairperson, Celly Q Coutinho presented the report of the activities done during her tenure from 2017 to 2022.
Officially the keys of the office were handed over by the Sarpanch Paul Pereira and the rules/Handbook & PBR draft were handed over to the incoming Chairperson Priya Almeida by the outgoing Chairperson.
Reshma Kerkar, Scientific & Admin. Goa State Biodiversity Board Officer addressed the gathering and congratulated the new Chairperson. She also informed the people of the importance of the People’s Biodiversity Register and recording the healers in the village.
