Former PWD Minister Churchill Alemao’s plan to take up work on the Navelim-Benaulim bridge over river Sal came in for strong opposition, with Navelkars rnwarning Churchill as well as Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro not to pursue the abandoned project.

George Barretto told the media in the presence of former Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado that Navelkars are ready to take up the challenge from Churchill as well as Faleiro. “The controversial bridge was abandoned after a long struggle by Navelkars. We would like to warn both Churchill and Faleiro not to play with the sentiments of the people. We will oppose the bridge tooth and nail.”
In an interesting development, Director of Panchayats has directed Aquem-Baixo Sarpanch Sharon Quadros to cancel the appointment of Puja Mane as panchayat clerk forthwith and report compliance by April 21, failing which Sharon will face removal as village sarpanch with effect from April 22 and not be eligible for re-election as sarpanch or deputy sarpanch for a period of five years from the date of the order.
