Citizens to organise candlelight march on Nov 2
MARGAO
Citizens of Navelim organised the “Justice for Edberg Pereira” protest to seek justice for the youngster, who is battling for his life at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, after being assaulted in Margao police custody on October 22.
A peaceful candlelight march will be held on November 2 at 7 pm in the compound of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim, in support of the demand for justice for Edberg.
Social activist Pratima Coutinho said the peaceful candlelight procession will take place in the compound of Navelim Church. “Parish Priest of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim, Fr Gabriel Coutinho, was kind enough to support the initiative seeking justice for Edberg,” she said, while appealing to the people of Navelim and neighbouring villages to join the candlelight march.
Meanwhile, Coutinho said that Edberg has not yet recovered, with doctors stating that his condition remains critical. “Today, Edberg was being shifted from the ICU when he began gasping for breath. The doctors immediately readmitted him to the ICU. His blood samples are being taken for testing, and his heart rate is dropping,” Coutinho said.
She, along with Edberg’s mother, Viola, made an impassioned plea to the people to pray to the Almighty for Edberg’s speedy recovery.
