The Margao police have finally registered an FIR against suspended Margao Police sub-inspector Stanley Gomes in connection with the assault of Navelim lad Edwin Coelho.
Margao Police station in-charge, PI Ditendra Naik informed that a case under sections 325 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the suspended PSI Stanley Gomes on Tuesday.
The FIR comes against the backdrop of the Margao police and the district police forwarding a detailed report to the police higher-ups, giving in detail the incident that had happened at the Margao police station on November 23.
The action has come a day after the Director-General of Police I D Shukla had paid a visit to the South Goa district headquarters and was reported to have told the police to act as per law in the matter.
PI Ditendra informed that the FIR has been registered against the suspended PSI under section 325 of the IPC for voluntarily causing grievous hurt and under section 504 of IPC for causing intentional insult.
PSI Stanley has been already placed under suspension by the police department and has been told to report at the police headquarters.
Victim Edwin was allegedly assaulted by the suspended cop on the night of November 23 after he took a photograph at the police station. The medical report had later confirmed that the assault had left his eardrum ruptured.
The victim, his family members and friends have been demanding registration of an FIR against the suspended PSI. They have also demanded the dismissal of the suspended PSI from service.
