One person was killed while two others were left critically injured after a slab of the Naval Technical Unit building collapsed in the Naval Aircraft Yard, at Varunapuri Vasco on Thursday morning.
Sources said that the incident took place at around 10.30 am when a few naval civilian employees were working in the area.
"The slab suddenly collapsed and fell on Khemkant Naik (50) of Marcaim, killing him on the spot, while a portion of the slab fell on Sai Mahale of Canacona, causing him severe leg injuries, and Babasaheb Ajayanath Sangle, who suffered head and shoulder injuries,” said a source.
“Naval authorities quickly shifted the injured persons to Jeevanti Hospital, but Khemkant Naik had already succumbed. The other two persons injured were then shifted to GMC hospital for treatment, while the body of Khemkant Naik was shifted to the District Hospital in Margao for a post mortem and other formalities."
A Vasco police team also visited the site and carried out the panchanama. The post mortem was conducted later in the day and the body was handed over to the family.
PSI Rohan Nageshkar is further investigating the case under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and guidance of DySP Salim Shaikh.
