The NCB’s drug trail has led to the family of former Mapusa councillor Franky Carvalho, with the agency arresting his 27-year-old son-in-law Prashil Shinde and seizing charas, MDMA and other chemical drugs.
Two other accomplices of his have also been arrested in connection with the case.
Shinde was apprehended from the Tivim railway station premises around 11.30 pm on Tuesday, shortly after NCB teams conducted searches at his flat in Dangi Colony and at Carvalho’s residence.
The NCB has claimed to have seized charas, MDMA and various other chemical drugs in different quantities from Shinde’s flat.
Shinde was produced before the Mapusa Judicial Magistrate First Class on Wednesday evening and was remanded to four days in NCB custody by Judge Pooja Sardesai.
According to sources, the NCB had received information that Shinde was allegedly involved in drug trafficking. Acting on the information, an NCB team led by Superintendent Vishal Pawar, under the guidance of Goa Zonal Deputy Director Ankush Salame, carried out the searches on September 29.
Shinde was not present at his Dangi Colony flat when the NCB team conducted the search. The agency subsequently traced him to Tivim railway station, where he was taken into custody and later arrested.
The NCB also searched the residence of former Mapusa councillor Franky Carvalho as part of the operation.
No drugs were reportedly found at Carvalho’s residence. However, his daughter Nikita Carvalho was questioned by the NCB and directed to appear before the agency on Wednesday for further questioning.
Nikita did not appear before the NCB and instead moved the Sessions Court at Merces seeking anticipatory bail.
The NCB investigation is continuing.
