The Goa unit of the National Confederation of Human Rights Organizations (NCHRO) has urged the government of India to take a host of measures to ease the situation in Jammu & Kashmir, including the immediate restoration of Articles 370 and 35A and its statehood.
While calling upon the government to restore landlines, mobile, internet, broadband services with immediate effect, NCHRO has further urged the government to release all political leaders, social activists, youth and children, and also withdraw all cases that have no legal substance and are merely vindictive.
“India must view Kashmir as a political question that requires a comprehensive dialogue and that needs a tripartite agreement that would include Kashmiri leaders and seperatists.”
The meeting of NCHRO members held in the city here on Saturday, was attended by the Chairperson Fr Savio Fernandes, working president Ranjan Solomon, general secretary Iftiyaz Sayed and others called upon India to restore tourism and all other livelihood activities and ensure that the gains of such activities bring gains to the Kashmiri people.
While calling upon the government to facilitate greater dialogue and engagement among human rights and civil liberties groups in J&K and with Goan civil society, the meeting called for the protection of the political rights of the people of Jammu and Kashkri and that the will of the people must be paramount in making any decisions on the fate of their state.
While demanding that the government repeal the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act and the Public Safety Act in its current form, NCHRO has called for replacing these laws with a version that recognizes ad protects the human rights of Kashmiris.
