Blaming the BJP-led government for the high-decibel parties held all along the coastal belt by throwing all caution to the wind despite the Covid scare, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Saturday demanded action against government officials for allowing the owners of the Sunburn Beach Club to hold rave parties in Vagator.
“The Sunburn Beach Club was sealed because of CRZ violations and various other illegalities. But within a day, the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) Member Secretary de-sealed the premises on a frivolous ground,” said Sanjay Barde, NCP General Secretary and demanded action against the GCZMA officer.
The NCP General Secretary met the Anjuna PI Suraj Gawas and filed a complaint against the owners of Sunburn Beach Club for violating a government order and illegally organising rave parties despite the premises being sealed.
According to Dipesh Naik of Goa Rakhandar, parties were held at Sunburn Beach Club on December 30, 31, 2020 and on January 1, with loud music being played till the wee hours of the next day.
He said the club could organise the parties only because of GCZMA member secretary, Dashrath Redkar who within a day gave permission to the owners to de-seal the premises and to remove perishable items from the club.
“The GCZMA member secretary should be taken to task. The government and more importantly, the chief minister, should take note and take action against such corrupt officers,” Naik said.
Barde also slammed Tourism Minister Babu Ajgaonkar for striking a deal with various club owners to allow the show to go on.
“While the country and the world were still under the fear of Covid pandemic, tourists in Goa were allowed to party by ignoring all health protocols,” he said and alleged that the tourism minister had done “setting” with most of the clubs in the coastal belt.
