Commenting on the search and recovery operations, Deputy Collector Pashant Shirodkar informed that the Navy, Coast Guard and NDRF conducted an extensive search.
Asked if the search operations had been wound up or merely suspended on Friday, Shirodkar clarified that the search operations were only suspended for the day as there was no missing complaint.
“So far, no missing person complaint has been registered in Quepem, Sanguem or Curchorem police stations and hence, the chances of finding another body is slim.”
“But NDRF team has been requested to remain on standby till Saturday. If any body surfaces, the NDRF team will resume search operation on Saturday,” Shirodkar added.
When asked if any decision had been taken to dismantle the old footbridge, after a portion had collapsed following an overload of onlookers on Thursday evening, Shirodkar replied: “The collector has issued an order to dismantle and remove the collapsed footbridge and accordingly, action will be initiated.”
