Nearly cent per cent students taste success at HSSC exam

PANAJI

Close to cent per-cent of the class XII students cleared the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) benchmark in the results declared by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBS&HSE) on Monday.

GBS&HSE Chariman Baghirath Shetye announced that 99.40 % of the students registered cleared the HSSC, a whopping 10.13 percentage points higher than last year.

Only 110 students of the 18,195 registered were declared unsuccessful but some of them have been placed in the "needs improvement" category and will be given another opportunity with a "supplementary exam" which the Board will conduct.

Also, the result of 35 candidates has been put under "Reserved Category" for non-submission of eligibility certificate, internal and practical marks, Shetye said.

Meanwhile, students who are not satisfied with their results can also exercise the option of answering this exam but will have to "forfeit" this result.

The HSSC exam this year was cancelled due to the spurt in Covid-19 infections in April-May when the second wave ravaged Goa and the GBS&HSE computed the results based on a module which took into account the students performance in internal tests conducted by higher secondary schools through the year.

Previous year's performances of students, largely on the lines of assessment templates used by Central Boards such as ICSE and CBSE, were also given weightage in the results.

In the Science stream, the pass percentage was highest at 99.68% followed by Commerce at 99.66% and Arts at 99.39%.

"Supplementary examination will be conducted as expeditiously as possible and the date will be announced soon. There is no provision for verification of marks this time,” Shetye said.
