Let’s set the record straight. Of course, we know you’ve heard of beach shacks and have probably been to a few. But there are beach shacks and then there are beach shacks. These are the latter. If you haven’t been to some of these beach shacks mentioned below, you probably had yourself an average beach shack fix. So give these beach shacks, which over the years have taken on a cult-like aura, a shot.

You can’t miss this one at Baga beach. This really large shack has over the last two decades emerged as an institution of its own. Celebrities line up here in queue and do not complain. It easily accounts for more than 100 covers and by evening, each of them is occupied by diners. What’s great here? Goan cuisine and of course seafood right from the seafood platters, baked crab, grilled prawns, etc.

Zeebop is quite the antithesis of Britto’s. Leisure is the currency here. Set along a quieter beach, wider acreage and catered to a more leisurely experience. The shack is regarded as one of the beach shacks in South Goa and perhaps with good reason. It’s popular with tourists as much as it is with locals, especially families who swear by its seafood salad, rava fried mussels, red snapper fillet, etc. The shack is also popular as a beach wedding venue.

Curlies is the original grunge beach shack along the coastline. It has an almost iconic status and is known for its repeat clientele over decades. The shack is so close to the sea, you can almost feel the salt of the sea in your salads. Jokes apart, among the many plusses which make this place such a super-hit, is its food, its classy upper deck, the music and the overall vibe the place generates.

One of the beach shacks which has captured popular imagination, especially in South Goa is the Café Del Mar beach shack at Palolem beach. It isn’t too rare to catch sight of celebrities here, despite the fact that it is many a mile from the nearest town. The food quality here has been consistent over the years, especially when it comes to dishes like fish and prawn curries, butter garlic calamari, fried prawns, fish in the local recheado masala, etc. Many would vouch for the chocolate and banana crepes as their pick of the dessert.
