BELAGAVI
MLA and Director of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) Bhalchandra Jarkiholi has been elected unopposed as president of Belgaum District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd.
Also identified as BEMUL, the union is a major supplier of milk and dairy products to Belagavi, Kolhapur and Goa region.
“I have served as a chairman at the state level. I would like to utilise the experience for procurement and supply of milk as the government is eager to improve the cooperative sector. I will work impartially with the cooperation of all for the development of the union. I would also like to enhance supplies to Goa,” Jarkiholi told media persons.
Incidentally, BEMUL supplies about 30,000 litres of Nandini brand of milk to Goa everyday.
He also appealed to farmers to turn to dairy farming.
“Despite scarcity of water in Kolar district, farmers there are giving preference to dairy farming. With ample water available and rising demand from Belagavi and neighbouring region, more farmers should turn to dairy farming which will help them to improve their lifestyle,” Jarkiholi said.
Jarkiholi who will succeed Vivek Patil thanked him for the support.
Outgoing President Vivek Patil and directors Babu Katti, Mallappa Patil, Kallappa Girennavar, Dr Basavaraj Parannavar, Baburao Waghmode, Managing Director MKrishnappa and others were present. Rani Channamma University Registrar Rajshree Jainapure acted as the Returning Officer.
