A new casualty block set up by the Paradeep Phospates Limited (PPL) Goa Unit as part of its CSR initiatice has been opened at the Cortalim Primary Health Centre.
Cortalim MLA Anton Vas on Tuesday inaugurated the new casualty block in the presence of Cortalim Sarpanch Senia Periera, Quelossim Sarpanch Fransisco Figueredo, Dr Tejam Lotlikar, Nilesh Dessai, Chief Manufacturing officer and Unit Head at Paradeep Phospates Limited (PPL) Goa Unit and others.
Later speaking to reporters, Cortalim MLA Anton Vas said he has also proposed a 20-bedded hospital at the Cortalim PHC.
“This new facility will help doctors and nurses to take better care of the patients. Many people had been sceptical to visit the PHC because it was very small and had space constraints. But we have managed to expand the health centre in phases and now it is being visited by people from entire Cortalim Constituency. We also have people arriving from adjoining Lotoulim and other constituencies,” said Vas.
“I have also proposed a 20-bedded hospital at this PHC. I even raised the issue in the assembly and personally spoke with Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane. This 20-bedded hospital here would give us an opportunity to cater to many people here, especially during accidents or health emergencies at night.”
“Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane has assured to inspect the centre and take up the proposal which will be extremely beneficial to the people of Cortalim and surrounding areas,” said Vas.
Nilesh Dessai, Chief Manufacturing Officer and Unit Head at PPL Goa Unit said the construction of the new casualty block at Cortalim PHC was taken at the cost of Rs 7.5 lakh.
“We are also trying to take up major projects of education along with health sector under CSR,” Desai added.
