The United Taximen Union (UTU), an association of around 350 black yellow taxis operating at Dabolim Airport, have expressed concerns over opening of another Rent-a-Cab counter at Dabolim Airport on Saturday

Addressing media on Friday, members of UTU said various counters opening at Dabolim Airport were eating into their businesses and had affected directly on their livelihood.

UTU Vice president Sudesh Naik said there were various rent-a-cab counters like Goa Miles and others which are slowly killing their business.

“What are we supposed to do if such private players start doing business and we traditional businessmen are out of business? The government must intervene and stop the opening of new rent-a-cab counter. We are on the airport for past 40 years, but we don’t even have a proper parking space at the airport. “Said Naik.

UTU President Eknath Palkar said they would be meeting all the BJP legislators from Mormugao Taluka and expressed confidence in gaining support from them.

Kavita Parab general secretary, Sanjay Wadkar treasurer and other members of UTU were present for the press conference.

Meanwhile, sources at Dabolim Airport have informed that after strong opposition from the taxi association, the inauguration of the new rent a cab counter at Dabolim Airport on Saturday morning could be postponed to a new date where police protection could be used to prevent untoward incidents at the Airport.
