The new swimming pool complex at Sada will be inaugurated on May 30, on the occasion of the Goa Statehood Day.
The announcement was made by Sports Minister Govind Gaude after a joint site inspection with Vasco MLA Krishna (Daji) Salkar, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Damodar Kaskar, Councillor Prajay Mayekar and others on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters, Gaude said the project was ready but the only issue was the smell of a nearby garbage plant, which would be resolved soon.
"I will take up the issue of garbage with the waste management department and we will see how we can resolve the issue. The swimming pool project constructed by GSIDC is complete in all aspects and is ready to be inaugurated by the government on May 30, which is Goa Statehood Day,” said Gaude.
The minister said he has issued directives to the Directorate of Sports and Youth affairs to make all preparations so that the infrastructure can be put to use by the public.
"We will presently get staff for this complex from other swimming pool complexes in the State. This complex will have a swimming coach, assistant coach, lifeguard and sweeper, besides plumber and electrician.”
Gaude said a local committee would be set up following public request to monitor the swimming pool.
“When we form a committee on public request, we can hold them responsible if the pool is misused. We have also decided to have a green mesh on the periphery of the complex to prevent it from visibility from surrounding residential areas,” said Gaude.
MMC Chairperson Damodar Kaskar and Ward councillor Prajay Mayekar hailed the setting up of a swimming pool of international standards at Sada.
