Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha on Thursday said the new Sancoale police station would be constructed at Upasnagar, which would be an ideal location for the project.
In a press note, Saldanha said sites for essential infrastructure projects like the police station and the crematorium had been identified.
Saldanha along with Mormugao DySP Raju Raut Desai, Administrator of Comunidades (South Goa) Vishal Kundaikar, Sancoale Communidade committee members, Sancoale Talathi Anuraj Gawas and Sancoale panch members carried out a site inspection of land at two different sites for the proposed Sancoale police station and crematorium.
“The government had initially approved the construction of a new police station for Sancoale at the site of the existing police outpost at Zuarinagar. But it has been observed that this area is not suitable as it is exposed to ammonia fumes.”
“The plan has now been revised and a new site identified for the Sancoale police station is at Upasnagar-Sancoale and the location is ideal with proper access to the main road.”
“If all goes well, we may have a full-fledged police station constructed at the site within a year. In the meanwhile, the Sancoale police station will be temporarily housed at the Housing Board unit in Upasnagar, for which a proposal has been sent to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant," said Saldanha.
Speaking at the site identified for the construction of a crematorium, Saldanha said a crematorium was a long-pending need.
"This crematorium will cater to residents from Upasnagar right up to MES area, as the population is huge and a cremation facility is presently not available,” said the MLA.
Saldanha said that she is grateful and thanked the Sancoale Comunidade for agreeing to provide land for these projects.
Those present at the inspections included Sancoale Communidade President Damodar Naik, Treasurer Neelam Naik and Attorney Satish Narvekar, Sancoale panch members Tulshidas Naik, Narayan Naik, Satish Padwalkar and Kavita Kamal.
