Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar justified the entry of Congress MLAs into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stating that it was looking at options to compensate BJP’s loss due to the exit of Senior RSS Leader Subhash Velingkar.
Speaking to media persons after BJP meeting, he said, “We had a father (Velingkar) who left us. He is only speaking about defeating us. He is not speaking anything about how many seats he will win. Our colleagues (Dhavalikar Brothers) too are talking about leaving us. So we will definitely look at options to compensate the losses. It is a simple thing.”
Velingkar was sacked from the RSS after he got into conflict with the State Government on the issue of grants to the minority-run English medium primary schools. Nearly 400 RSS swayamsevaks had quit along with him and formed RSS Goa Prant. Soon, a political party “ Goa Suraksha Manch “ was also formed by the breakaway group aiming at defeating BJP in the upcoming assembly polls.
Meanwhile, he also informed that he spoke to Union Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Naik, but refused to divulge any details.
Asked to comment on Naik’s meeting with BJP Cumbharjua Mandal’s workers on Monday, he said, “How can I comment on something that I am not a witness to. I cannot react to what newspapers have reported.”
He, however, said that if the Government needs to be formed, the decisions taken by the Party, even if it is against anyone’s wishes need to be accepted.
“You cannot be adamant on something. BJP is looking at a long term. So there is no need for any party worker to get excited. We too have come up to this position as party workers only. Everything does not happen as per our wishes. But once there is consensus on something, it is binding on all of us”, he said.
