VASCO
In a shocking incident, a newborn baby girl was found abandoned in a field at Vaddem in Vasco on Friday evening.
Vasco Police Inspector Kapil Nayak said the incident was reported on Friday evening to the police by a local Sudesh Madkaikar, who found the newborn baby in the field while on his way to his home.
"A newborn baby girl was found abandoned in the fields behind the Church at Vaddem. We believe the incident took place to conceal the pregnancy and the baby was abandoned by her parents.”
“We got a call from Chicalim hospital as well that a newborn baby was brought to the hospital and Vasco police has handed over the baby to GMC for medical attention. We have also registered an offence against unknown persons under Sections 317, 336 IPC and Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act.”
“People sometimes abandon a newborn baby because she is a girl child. Vasco police will take all steps to trace the culprits and take stringent legal action against the culprits," said PI Nayak.
Meanwhile, Sudesh Madkaikar who had rescued the newborn baby said he was on his way home when he heard the cries of the baby from the field.
"I was startled when I saw the newborn baby abandoned in the fields and I rushed home and called my wife. I run the canteen of the Chicalim Hospital and the doctors are known to me. We rushed with the baby to the hospital and I also alerted the police.”
“Had I not noticed the cries, the infant may have been attacked by stray animals. People should never abandon their babies and can offer them to orphanages so that many couples who are not blessed with children can adopt these babies," said Madkaikar.
PSI Rohan Nageshkar is carrying out a further investigation under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and the guidance of DySP Rajesh Kumar
