A newborn baby died Tuesday after being thrown from the second floor of a residential apartment here allegedly by an unmarried minor girl soon after delivery, police said.

The incident took place at the posh Neelkanth Residency apartments in Adajan locality. The residents informed police after finding the remains of the new born girl, Surat Police PRO G S Raol told PTI.

“A minor girl Tuesday threw her newborn baby to death from the second floor of the apartment soon after she delivered her,” Raol said.

The police have taken cognisance of the matter and will take appropriate action after receiving the port mortem report, said Raol.

“The remains of the newborn have been sent for post mortem and police will file a murder case after receipt of the report. We have also seized CCTV footage from the apartment in which the baby is seen falling from,” he said, adding a probe was underway.
