With the diarrhoea scare returning back to haunt the jetties, GOACAN has stressed on the urgent need for a meeting to discuss the health & sanitation issues that have arisen at Cutbona Jetty.
In a letter to Deputy Collector & SDM II Laxmikant R Desai, GOACAN has submitted various news reports appearing in the media, related to the health of the fishing workers and expressed concern about the health & sanitation issues prevalent at the Cutbona Fishing Jetty & its surroundings.
It may be recalled that last year, in September 2024 similar issues had arisen and at that time at the request of GOACAN and the Primary Health Centre Balli, the SDM through various Site Inspections and Meetings had directed the Fisheries Department to take steps to improve the sanitation situation at the Cutbona Jetty & its surroundings.
In the letter, GOACAN has pointed out that yet again it is very important that a joint meeting is held along with all stakeholders to check what steps have been put in place by the Directorate of Fisheries to tackle the health & sanitation issues at the fishing jetty.
GOACAN has also pointed out that it is important to verify whether the Cutbona Jetty Management Committee has had its regular meetings and whether a Nodal Officer has been appointed to oversee any action plan suggested by the Primary Health Centre Balli.
GOACAN has further stated that the health interests of the consumers of Velim Village and the workers at the Cutbona Fishing Jetty needs to be addressed on priority.
