MARGAO With sanitation still afar cry at the Cutbonafishing jetty, Goacanhas called for the urgent interventionof the health and fisheriesdepartments before thesituation escalates and goesbeyond control thereby havinghuge health ramifications inthe neighbourhood in the timeof the Covid-19 pandemic.In separate letters addressedto the Health Directorand the Fisheries Director,Goacan Coordinator RolandMartins said the NGO hasbeen following up on the issueof sanitation at the Cutbonafishing jetty since 2016,
butlamented that the nothing hasbeen addressed till date.After the issue was highlightedby the media lastweek, the NGO pointed out thepresent situation poses dangerand there is a chance of ahealth crisis. There is a needfor urgent intervention of thedepartments concerned andthe South Goa Collectorate, itadded.“After receiving complaintsfrom consumers, we had beenpursuing this matter with theDeputy Collector (Margao)who had convened a series ofmeetings in 2016, 2017 and2018 at our request to resolvethe issue by involving yourdepartment and other allieddepartments. However, therehas been no requiredfinancial sanction and administrativefollow up as can beseen in the minutes of thesemeetings. We, therefore, callfor your urgent intervention beforethis matter escalates andgoes beyond control therebyhaving huge health ramificationsin South Goa duringthis Covid-19 pandemic,” Martinssaid in his letter tothe Fisheries and Healthdepartments.
