Nigerian arrested for illegal stay in Anjuna

MAPUSA:

Anjuna Police have arrested a Nigerian national on charges of staying in India without valid travel documents.

The accused, identified as Ben Offor (38), a resident of Onitsha, Nigeria was taken into custody from Monterio Waddo, Anjuna, on February 25.

According to police sources, the arrest was made following a routine verification drive conducted to track foreign nationals residing in the area.

Upon checking Offor’s documents, authorities found that he had overstayed in India without the necessary legal permits.

As a result, a case was registered against him under the Foreigner Order, 1948, and the Foreigners Act, 1946, which govern the entry, stay, and movement of foreign nationals in India.

Fire engulfs Borda apartment balcony, no injuries reported

MARGAO:Margao fire brigade rushed to Borda-Fatorda on Wednesday evening after the balcony of a residential apartment was engulfed by fire.The fire is believed to have damaged the wooden door and other items in the balcony.The fire was immediately brought under control by the fire personnel. A lamp that was lit in the balcony is suspected to have caused the fire.
