There’s good news in store for fish loving Goans. The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) has said the activities at Goa’s lone wholesale fish market at Margao will not come under the purview of the night curfew.
The PDA took the stand after SGPDA Chairman, MLA Wilfred D’Sa spoke to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who said the night curfew will not affect the wholesale fish market since fish comes under the essential commodities list.
After discussions with the Chief Minister, the PDA Chairman visited the PDA office on Thursday morning and requested the Member Secretary, Vertika Dagur to make a letter to the district Collector, South on why the night curfew should not affect fish activities in the wholesale fish market.
“When I took up the matter with the Chief Minister after the announcement was made of the night curfew, the Chief Minister was categorical in saying the night curfew will not affect the wholesale fish market since fish is an essential commodity,” D’Sa told The Goan.
He said the PDA Member Secretary has been requested to send a letter to the district Collector with a plea to exempt the wholesale fish market from the purview of the night curfew.
Thursday morning saw fish trading and business as usual in the wholesale fish market. Though not many outstation vehicles arrived in the market on Thursday, the traders pointed out that vehicles from Maharashtra and down South are all scheduled to visit the market on Friday morning.
