Citizens who have been visiting the council to get their income certificates and to attend cases related to illegal constructions had to go back as they were informed that the chief officer was on leave and will not resume duty
till Monday.
Speaking to The Goan, Sweta Shetty who visited the council to get her income certificate said she needed the income certificate to avail of a government scheme.
“I have been visiting the council from September 2 to get the income certificate. I was told to come back on Wednesday as Monday and Tuesday were Ganesh holidays,” said Shetty.
“When I went on Thursday, I was told that the chief officer is on leave till Monday. The authorities concerned should think twice before signing their leave applications
as nothing moves in the
municipal councils.”
“If the leave sanctioning authority feels to sanction them the required leave, then they should direct other officers to hold additional charge,”
added Shetty.
Shivanand Patil, who had a hearing on Thursday, said he had been visiting the council for the last one year. “Every time I go for the hearing, I am given a next date,” said Patil.
“I had hearing just before Vasco Saptah, but that too was deferred, as the chief officer was busy with Saptah. I was told that the hearing will take place soon after Saptah, however that date was also deferred assuring me that the hearing will be completed just before Ganesh festival,”
added Patil. “When I visited the council on Thursday, I was informed that the chief officer is on leave till Monday. The government should direct such officers to take VRS and appoint new officers who could do justice to their post,”
stated Patil.
When contacted, MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik said: “DMA was supposed to hand over the charge to another officer, but I am not aware whether the additional charges are allotted to any other officer.”
“I will get in touch with the Directorate of Municipalities and request them to allot the additional charges to another officer to solve the problems of the port town residents,” assured Naik.
