No candidate spoke about labour issues in recent polls: AITUC

PANAJI: The All India Trade Union Congress has alleged that all political party candidates from Goa failed to even refer to labour issues apart from the mining issue during campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections and Assembly bypolls.
“Political party candidates did not even make a mention of labour issues,” said Christopher Fonseca General Secretary of AITUC.
Fonseca at a press conference on Monday also informed that AITUC and Centre of Indian Trade Unions will celebrate May Day celebrations by holding a joint public rally followed with a public meeting at Panaji.
The rally will start on May 1 from Kadamba Bus Stand Panaji at 9.30 a.m, march into Panjim city and culminate in a public meeting near the Church Square.
This year slogan for May Day is 'wealth belongs to those who produce', informed Fonseca.
Fonseca said, the pro-capitalist government has decided to scrap 44 central labour laws merging them into 4 labour codes.
The intention, he said, is to deprive workers of whatever little rights and social security benefits that they have achieved through decades of struggles and sacrifices.
He alleged that the government is promoting contract labour system through programmes like NEEM (National Employment Enhancement Mission) and NETAP (National Employment Through Apprenticeship programme).
He also said that there is utmost need to intensify our struggles against the neo-liberal policies that are ruthlessly attacking our lives and livelihoods.
