Amar Parrikar, in whose name an individual posed before the Directorate of Sports and reportedly scooted with some 19 plush sports kit bags on the pretext of handing them over to members of the table tennis squad which participated in the 2017-18 National School Games and never did, has clarified that no such chicanery took place.
Parrikar, a well known entrepreneur in the real estate and construction business from Mapusa, said it was he himself who had taken delivery of 10 and not 19 kit bags after agreeing to be the ‘good Samaritan’ and deliver them to the bonafide members of the squad.
“My daughter, Prutha Parrikar, too was part of the same squad. So I agreed to the request of the Sports official to take the bags and hand them over to the other players whose families I knew personally. But I could deliver the bags to only three of the players and after a few weeks I returned the balance seven kit bags back to the department,” Parrikar told The Goan.
The Goan in its Friday edition had reported that officials of the Sports Dept were conned after a man picked up the kit bags and scooted without delivering.
The manager of the squad, Geeta Divekar, had also filed a complaint alleging the storekeeper had handed the kitbags to an unauthorised ‘Amar Parrikar’ who is a parent of a team member. She demanded action in her letter.
Additionally, the parent of another member of the squad Mukundaraj Mudras, had also lodged a complaint on the same lines as Divekar.
