Vasco MLA Krishna Daji Salkar has assured residents of Shantinagar-Vasco that no house will be damaged due to the ongoing railway track-doubling work.
His statement came during a joint site inspection on Thursday morning, where residents, accompanied by Ward Councillor Shraddha Mahale Shetye, expressed concerns about potential property damage from nearby construction activities.
Addressing the residents, MLA Salkar emphasised that their homes were safe and directed railway officials to coordinate with locals to prevent any harm.
“Some people had been spreading rumours about entire houses being damaged, but the fact is that no houses will be impacted. There are two houses in close proximity to the tracks, and the Railways have offered an option to rehabilitate these residents,” Salkar explained.
He further assured that the fears of property collapse due to hill cutting had been addressed. "The fear in the minds of the people has gone. However, I still visited the site to ensure there are no concerns. We have instructed the Railways to carry out works as far as possible from houses and consider constructing a retaining wall in the area,” he said.
Salkar also pointed out that the double-tracking project has been conducted transparently with input from local residents and councillors.
“We have taken the people and ward councillors into confidence since the beginning, and so far, no houses have been affected,” he stated.
The MLA highlighted the benefits of the project, adding, “We have even asked the Railways to build a drainage system in the area and cover it with slabs to benefit the people. The double-tracking work in Vasco is expected to be completed within two months, and I urge residents not to fall prey to miscreants trying to misguide them.”
