No new wards in CCP; delimitation notified

Reservation to be done by SEC

PANAJI

The State Government notified delimitation of the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) wards, nearly two months prior to the election scheduled to be held on March 6.

While the number of wards will remain at 30, the reservation of wards will be done by the State Election Commission.

Informing about the same, Director of Municipal Administration Elvis Gomes said, "The CCP under the Act has 30 wards wherein each ward has one councillor. We have carried out the exercise of delimitation of the wards for the purpose of election scheduled on March 6. The number of wards remains the same, but we require some sort of realisation in the number of voters."

On this basis, a request was sent and with the help of the revenue department including Collector and through the mamlatdar the exercise of delimitation was carried out.

"Now with the approval of the government, it has been notified and will be sent to the SEC for carrying out the reservation", informed Elvis.

The total number of voters in Panaji is 31,504. Sources within the government informed that there are discrepancies in the delimitation. While wards like 3 and 25 have over 1500 voters, ward no 28 has only 703 voters.
