A section of ruling MLAs have sought to reassure that there still stood a slim chance that the MoI Bill could indeed be tabled in the Assembly.
Speaking to The Goan, Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado said that a final decision would be taken when the Select Committee meets on Monday.
“A final decision will be taken on Monday. It is not that this bill will not come in this assembly,” Furtado said.
It has become increasingly clear that the MoI Bill may not be tabled in the Assembly after the meeting of the Select Committee on the bill remained inconclusive with the members of the committee seeking more information to arrive at a decision on the bill.
“I don’t think so because the officers are busy,” is what the Chief Minister who heads the Select Committee is reported to have said after the meeting.
Panaji MLA Siddharth Kuncalienkar retorted angrily when asked about the failure of the government to table the bill in the assembly as promised during this session.
“Who said the bill is not going to be tabled this assembly? If media is going to decide the agenda of the session why don’t you take over our job? Let the media run the assembly,” Siddharth Kuncalienkar told The Goan.
Other members of the delegation who had called on the protesting FORCE members remained non committal with Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida refusing to comment on the issue saying he wasn’t aware of the recent developments while others were unavailable for their comments.
