Caught in the crossfire between the school management and the Town and Country Planning Department are 18 students of Std VIII, presently studying in Bloomz International Schools at Borda as the parents fear that their wards will not be able to continue their education in the school in event the school is not shifted to the new and spacious premises built at Nuvem.
A parent Dr Celso Fernandes told the media that unless the CBSE officials inspect the new premises at Nuvem, the fate of their wards hangs in balance.
“Bloomz school will not be able to hold class IX at the existing premises at Borda if the school is not shifted to the new premises and certified by the CBSE. We are told by the management that the school structure is ready and is awaiting occupancy certificate from the TCP. Unless the TCP gives the management the OC, CBSE will not be able to inspect the new school structure and this will affect the future of the students,” he said.
Dr Celso pointed out that admission of these 18 students to other schools from the coming academic year is unlikely with managements of other schools not keen in accommodating them.
“Only the Director of Education can intervene and save the career of these students. Then there is the issue of these students facing problem of studying the Goa Board curriculum which is different from CBSE. The problem can be resolved only if the TCP issues the occupancy certificate and resolve the issue,” he said.
When the media pointed out that Bloomz was in the past accused of violating the TCP norms by resorting to hill cutting as evident by the objections taken at the Nuvem gram sabha, Dr Celso said the management has claimed that they have complied with the TCP directions and has made the necessary rectifications, adding that the occupancy certificate had been pending since the time the election code of conduct came into force in January till date.
“The parents tried to seek an appointment with TCP Minister, Vijai Sardesai, but have not been able to meet him till date. We are hopeful that the new minister will take a call in the interest of the 18 students as well as the parents,” he added.
