After having been deprived of power supply for six long years, the Anganwadi in Bagwada-Khandola was given power connection within hours after the plight of the staff and over 30 students had been highlighted in The Goan.
The Anganwadi behind the Betki-Khandola Panchayat Office had been equipped with lights, fans and even an electric water purifier, but had no power supply since it was set up in 2017.
After the issue was highlighted in The Goan, electricity officials visited the Anganwadi in the morning to take stock of the situation.
Sources said an electricity meter was promptly installed at the Anganwadi in the afternoon and power supply was provided to the premises by evening.
Incidentally, the Khandola panchayat also cleaned up the area around the Anganwadi.
The swift action to provide power supply to the Anganwadi has been welcomed by parents and locals alike.
The Bagwada Anganwadi was constructed in 2007 for the benefit of children who were put up in a rented room at Bagwada. The children and staff were finally shifted to this new building only 10 years later.
Since 2017, the Anganwadi has not been provided an electricity connection even though fans, lights and even a water purifier had been installed in the premises. As a result, these electrical appliances had been lying without being put to any use.
“Ever since the children were shifted to the new building, efforts to have an electricity connection were initiated but the connection was not sanctioned. The parents had requested local politicians to resolve the issue,” said a source.
“These children had to bear the hot summer without any fan and parents prefer to keep their children at home, instead of sending them to the Anganwadi”, the source added.
