The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has hit out at the government for hastily passing a bunch of Bills on important issues pertaining to the State, without allowing proper discussion in the Legislative Assembly or consulting the people of Goa.

The party led by its MLA Venzy Veigas also slammed a Congress legislator for showing inclination to two controversial Bills -- The Goa Restriction on Transfer of Agriculture Land Bill, 2023 and The Goa Legislative Diploma No 2070 dated 15-4-1961 (Amendment) Bill, 2023.

"The Bills were opposed by us but the government is hell-bent to bulldoze everything. The amendment to Comunidade Code can be challenged in Court because the manner in which the government went about passing the Bill without following certain mandatory areas, is not as per the law. I pleaded to protect the comunidades during the discussion but government passed it," Viegas, who held a press conference at the party head office in Panaji, on Saturday, said.

Without naming the Aldona legislator Carlos Ferreira, Viegas took a potshot at him claiming "One MLA was in favour of the BJP. He was like the BJP's consultant."

Viegas went on to add that the Opposition ought to point out flaws and debate rather than suggesting the government pass the Bill.

"We made our best effort to discuss the Bill, bring it before the people... That one Opposition MLA participated in the government's Bill suggesting the government add the word 'such' to pass the Bill. We need to remind him that the Opposition has to point flaws in the Bills and debate, not to suggest," he lamented.

Viegas feared that the Bills passed in the Budget session without discussion could prove doom for Goa.
