No question of quitting as market panel chief, says Viraj Phadke

Chairman of the market committee of Mapusa Municipal Council, Viraj Phadke said he and another councillor Ashirwad Korjuvenkar had filed complaints against the Sopo contractor for overcharging the vendors during the Matoli bazaar.

Phadke also said there was no question of resigning as market committee chairman when he was not involved in any wrongdoing.

He said he did not have the faintest idea who were the three councillors who were involved in demanding hafta, as alleged by the Sopo contractor.

“I do not know of any complaint filed by the Sopo contractor. I have come to know about the allegations from the newspaper report. One thing is certain that Ashirwad Korjuvenkar and I had filed a complaint against the contractor for overcharging. Shekar Naik had also made a video on it,” Phadke said.

“Let the legal proceedings be conducted in the matter so that those who are involved may be exposed. It could also be an allegation which has stemmed out because we have made a complaint against the Sopo contractor. The inquiry will clear doubts,” he said.

The market chairman further said that resigning from the post was out of question when he was not guilty.

“If I am found guilty then I can think about it. But if someone is doing it and it comes on us, that does not mean I have to resign,” Phadke said.
