Eshwarappa, during whose tenure the work on the controversial project had commenced, was addressing a news conference in Belagavi on Wednesday.
Stating that more than its merit, the issue has become one of the major issues for the forthcoming assembly elections in Goa, Eshwarappa said no leader from both the political parties is ready to voice opinion on the issue, as both are opposed to implementation of the water diversion project.
“Apparently for political reasons and fear of setback in obtaining the popular vote, no one wants to change their stance on the issue.”
“However, the BJP leaders are desperately looking forward to an early solution to the prolonged issue for the benefit of drinking water needs of the people of north Karnataka,” Eshwarappa said adding that BJP leaders in Karnataka are trying to woo their counterparts in Goa.
“However, it is possible to solve the issue, but the Congress leaders in Karnataka should attempt for an accord with its counterparts in Goa,” he ascertained adding that special efforts would be made to pursue the implementation of the water diversion project as it would be discussed on priority during the ongoing session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in Belagavi.
