In his reply to the question raised by Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo, Parsekar stated, “Due to delays caused on account of a petition filed by Goa Foundation before NGT, the time frame for completing the ongoing ways of the bridge over river Mandovi cannot be determined at this stage.
The estimated cost of the bridge is Rs. 355 crore, while the cost of the work order is Rs 403 crores. The GSIDC so far has spent an amount of Rs 147 crore.
Meanwhile, the Opposition on Wednesday grilled the State Government over appointment of a consultant for Mandovi Bridge stating that a flyover built by the same consultant in Gandhinagar, Gujarat had collapsed. The Opposition also charged that the steel which was being used for construction was being rusted.
Defending the work on the Bridge, Panaji MLA and GSIDC Vice Chairman Sidharth Kuncalienkar stated that corrosion resistant steel was being used for the construction.
The Opposition MLAs objected to his reply stating that Kuncalienkar should only ask question and not reply.
Parsekar however informed that IIT Chennai was entrusted the task of full proof checking of the Bridge.
