No ugly scenes as Serula Comunidade votes again

PORVORIM: The Serula Comunidade went to elections once again on Sunday to choose its new committee after the entire poll process was suspended on January 27 following uproar and ugly scenes by members of one of the contesting groups. With no reports of any untoward incident this time, Peter Martins romped home as the Attorney of Serula Comunidade in the election held on Sunday at Azad Bhavan, Porvoim. He defeated his rival Ashley Lobo by 17 votes.
The other members of the new managing committee headed by Peter Martins who have been elected for 2019-2022 are: Substitute Attorney -- Govind Tanaude, Effective President -- Alex D’Souza , Substitute President -- Joseph Pinto, effective Treasurer -- Puroshottam Shirodkar and Substitute Treasurer -- Dionisio Trininade.
It may be recalled that Mamlatdar Laxmikant Kuttikar was compelled to suspend the election process of the Serula comunidade on January 27 due to the ruckus created by supporters of Lobo group. The matter was then referred to High Court and as per the direction of the High Court the Administrator of Comunidades convened this meeting on Sunday.
The election began under tight police protection. The voter as well as press persons were not allowed to carry their Mobiles and cameras in the Azad Bhavan Hall. A strong police force headed by Dy Superintendent of Police Kiran Poduwal and Police Inspector Paresh Nail were present at Azad Bhavan.
The poll process began after completion of registration formalities of the gaonkars and the shareholders. The Mamalatdar then announced that 375 voters were present and that the election will be held by show of hands. Laxmikant Kuttikar called out the name of each candidate and requested the voters to raise their hands. When the names of all candidates were called out and counting was done Kuttikar declared the results.
