North Goa Road Safety panel calls for stray cattle removal

The North Goa District Road Safety Committee on Tuesday discussed approaching the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services to publicise the scheme for the removal of stray cattle from roads.  

The notification regarding this scheme will be circulated to all Panchayats and Municipal Councils for immediate action.  

A total of 73 accidents have been reported since 2019 until last month due to stray cattle, in which 13 persons and 19 bovines succumbed to injuries.  

The meeting further discussed key road safety initiatives to improve safety measures in Goa, particularly for tourists and local 

residents.  

The Tourism Department has been urged to upload a special advisory on road safety on its official website to guide tourists visiting the State.  

GOACAN Convener Roland Martins, one of the members on the committee, stated that an analysis of five major fatal accidents in North Goa will soon be uploaded on the websites of the Police, Public Works Department, Transport Department, and the Office of the District Collector to create awareness and encourage safe driving practices.  

He said that the Committee further discussed launching a major road safety drive next month, focusing on educational institutions. Road Safety Patrols will be introduced in schools and colleges, and efforts will be made to enrol Traffic Wardens across all talukas in the district.
