Authorities began releasing water from the Tillari dam early Saturday morning and villages downstream including in North Goa have been asked to stay alert and to refrain from any unnecessary activity close to the river or canals even as the Indian Meteorology Department forecast more heavy
rains and issued an Orange alert for the next five days in Goa.
The release of the Tillari water is being carried out in small amounts with only 4.5 cusecs released on Saturday but authorities have warned that the quantum of up to 400 cusecs can be released in the days to come.
Officials of the WRD in Goa meanwhile said they are in continuous touch with their counterparts at Tillari and monitoring the situation.
“As a general precaution all the citizens are advised not to venture in any river water as they have considerably high flow,” the WRD official said.
Meanwhile, in Goa, the Selaulim Dam level was recorded at 116%, Anjunem at 57%, Chapoli at 82%, Amthane at 94%, Panchawadi at 103% and Gaunem at 100%.
The IMD has also warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall with gusty winds in Goa in the next five days.
“Short intense spells and winds gusting to around 40 to 50 kmph are likely,” the weather warning said.
Normal life was affected across the State with several incidents of tree falls reported and also roads inundated.
A huge tree was uprooted in the capital city at Campal along the DB Marg and a landslide was reported at Anmod Ghat.
