PONDA
PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar has sent out a clear message to his opponents, stating he is not afraid of opposition to the Sewerage Treatment Plant at Undir-Bandora and clarified that the government has told the National Green Tribunal that till it passes order in the matter the work will not start.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of program in Kavale, Dhavalikar said that he came up with the project of STP for the betterment of society.
“This step has been taken considering the welfare of society. In another fifty years people will say it was right decision as the project will do away with pollution in the nullah flowing from Bethora and connecting to Undir-Bandora,” Dhavalikar said.
“I am not afraid of opposition by a few people. There is a lot of politics involved,” he said.
Dhavalikar said that many buildings have released their sewage directly into this nullah which then flows to Undir-Bandora.
“The sewage released by buildings flows to Undir and settles in the fields there. Why are the opponents not talking about this issue. They are just misguiding people over this issue,” he said.
According to him, if the STP is commissioned then the sewerage of buildings and houses will be connected to STP pipeline and hence the nullah will remain clean and fields will not get polluted.
“These opponents are not telling people about this. They are just misguiding people at the behest of some politicians,” Dhavalikar said.
Ponda Municipal Council Chairperson Pradip Naik, who was present with Dhavalikar, also said that many people have released the sewage into the main nullah flowing from Bethora.
“People are misguided saying NGT has stayed the project. It is not true. Instead, government has told NGT that we will not commence the work until it gives the verdict,” he said.
Dhavalikar also said that all the documentation done to come up with the STP at Undir is legal. “We have enough concrete documentation that we have not violated CRZ,” he said.
He hinted that government will setup the STP at Undir-Bandora after NGT gives its nod.
The villagers from Undir have challenged the proposed STP in NGT.
