Asserting that the Justice Jhadav Commission has named certain notaries for allegedly conniving with land grabbers in the land grab cases, Law Minister Aleixo Sequeira on Friday said the services of the notaries will be terminated to send a message loud and clear that the government means business.
The Law Minister further said the government has started tightening the screws in respect of execution of succession deeds and other deeds to put an end to land grab in the State.
Reiterating his stand that land grab cannot take place without the connivance of notaries, the Law Minister said this has been established by the Jadhav Commission constituted by the government to go into the land grab cases. “If you go through the report submitted by the Jhadav Commission report, Justice Jhadav has mentioned the names of notaries, who according to him, have connived with the land grabbers. I had made the statement earlier this on the issue since I was attending a programme organised by the South Goa Advocates Association. Since some of these are notaries, I have sought the cooperation of Advocates to work hand in hand to stop land grab”, he said.
When the media asked the minister to name the notaries who have come under scanner of the Jhadav Commission, Sequeira shot back “open the Jhadav Commission report and you can have a look at the names of notaries”. Sequeira asserted that it is a fact that land grab cannot take place without the connivance of the notaries.
Asked whether the government is contemplating any action against the notaries whose names find a mention in the Jhadav Commission report, the Law Minister said the government will terminate the services of all the notaries, who have been named in the report. “The process to initiate action against the notaries is underway. I will terminate the services of the notaries. This is a commitment I want to give today”, Sequeira added
He said action against the notaries named in the Commission report will not only act as a deterrent, but will send a message loud and clear to those who care a damn that the government will take care of them too.
