VASCO: Claiming he had no issues with former deputy chief minister Vijai Sardessai, St Andre's MLA Francis Silveira who joined the BJP said on Saturday he had joined the BJP with the sole intention to develop his constituency and to promote employment for youth in his area.
Silveira was speaking to reporters along the sidelines of a Vanamahostava program organised by Fr Agnel school and the panchayats of Goa Velha and Agassaim.
Agassaim Sarpanch Xavier Gracias, Goa Velha Sarpanch Ruth Cardoz and Bambolim-Curca Sarpanch Usha Naik were also present on the occasion.
"Vijay had never interfered in my constituency and never blocked my works or troubled me. He has been a good friend and a colleague and has done my jobs whenever I approached him. As such, I don't want to make any allegations against him," added Silveira, while responding to allegations against former ministers of the Goa Forward Party.
Justifying his entry into the BJP, Silveira said: “Villages in my constituency had issues pertaining to roads, water shortage, electricity and I will make the necessary changes now after joining the BJP government.”
"I have always been working for my constituency and several times, panch members of Agassaim, Mandur, Curca, Goa Velha, etc insisted that if works had to be taken up on a large scale, I should be in power and a part of the government.”
“Hence when I took the decision, I spoke to all of them and took them into confidence before joining the BJP. They supported me and told me not to worry. I am happy that they have been my support," said Silveira.
The St Andre MLA said he would also work to create employment opportunities for skilled and unskilled youth.
“I look forward to take up a lot of works in the constituency by uniting my workers, Congress workers and BJP workers as well," said Silveira.
