Adv Monteiro has become the third Congress ticket contender for the Cuncolim seat after former two-time MLA Joaquim Alemao and former Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson Devendra Desai severed ties with the party.
While Adv Monteiro will contest the ensuing election on the Goa Vikas Party banner, Devendra will throw his hat in the ring on the Shiv Sena ticket.
Joaquim Alemao will seek re-nomination and cross swords against the Congress candidate Clafacio Dias as an Independent.
Briefing the media in the presence of GVP President Lyndon Monteiro after joining the regional party, Adv Monteiro said his
candidature was sabotaged at the eleventh hour by State Congress president, Luizinho Faleiro, MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, former MLA Filipe Neri Rodrigues and MLA Babu Kavlekar.
He has threatened to work against all these Congress leaders in the coming
election.
“I have quit the party along with Cuncolim NSUI President Prabodh Kamat and Youth president Sankesh Kunde along with 1,500 members. The Congress neither has the ideology nor the culture,” he said, adding that the Congress is not for clean and educated candidates to contest the elections.
While welcoming Adv Monteiro into the party fold, GVP President Lyndon Monteiro said that Adv Monteiro will be the party nominee for the Cuncolim seat.
The decision to field Adv Monteiro for the Cuncolim means that the GVP has so far decided to field five candidates in the coming election.
