After former chief minister Ravi Naik chose to exclude Konkani language from his manifesto, it was the turn of the MGP candidate from Cortalim constituency to do the same.

MGP's Cortalim candidate Suman Sharma released her manifesto at a city hotel at Vasco on Saturday and while the manifesto was published in Kannada Marathi, Hindi and English, she did not publish it in Konkani.

Incidentally, members of Goa Suraksha Manch, Bharati Bhasha Suraksha Manch and MGP who have been fighting for the Medium of Instruction in local languages were also caught off guard and failed to notice the absence of Konkani language.

When the media brought this omission to their notice, Abhay Khaunte of GSM clarified that Sharma had prepared the manifesto and printed it without taking them into confidence.

“We will correct the manifesto and include Konakni language in it and we will circulate it again among the constituents,' assured Khaunte.

In her manifesto, Sharma has assured to create recreational parks for children, a gym for senior citizens, jogging park, football grounds and playing areas at different sites in the constituency.

Sharma added that special emphasis would be laid on children from the slum area of Birla and Zuarinagar, while also promising to provide toilets, sewerage connectivity, upgradation of health centers and jobs to unemployed youth.

“If elected, I will organize career guidance camps at educational institutions, encourage self-help groups, 24x7 ambulance service and impart ITI training,” she added.
