Parrikar flays EC for putting notice on web, to reply today

Defence minister confident of BJP getting clear two-third majority

PANAJI

Pointing out that it was wrong procedure by the Election Commission of India to put the notice on its website, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that he will reply to the notice by 1 pm on Friday.

Addressing media persons at BJP headquarters, Parrikar said, “I learnt about the notice by EC after journalists from Delhi contacted me. Following this, when I personally called the EC and inquired, I received the notice yesterday when BJP’s public meeting in Panaji was going on. I have given it to my advocate. I will answer to it tomorrow by 1 pm.”

When asked if the complaint will have any impact on BJP in the upcoming election, he said, “Let me answer the EC first. I don’t think there is any substance to it. Notice should be served to the individual and not on the website. It is an absolutely wrong procedure to put it on the website. I will reply and explain to them what their errors are and where they are faltering.”

Questioned on his comments on keeping its former ally MGP away from power, he said, “BJP on its own is hopeful of getting clear two-third majority. We are certain of it and we will not require taking anybody’s help. So, naturally everybody will be in the opposition.”

Reacting to MGP comments that it is open for post-poll alliance with BJP on its conditions, Parrikar said, “That is actually they are accepting defeat in advance. Their party workers and supporters should take note of it.”

He however said that it was too late for the Congress to level corruption charges against them.

“Today it is too late. I think they should have done it in the last five years course. However, they did make attempts which failed. Few of them even went right upto high courts," he said.

Speaking earlier, he welcomed the Budget stating that it is a successful, popular, people friendly and farmer friendly budget. He also stated that BJP has carried out an extensive election campaign for the poll.

“I personally visited all the 36 constituencies and what I see is a very satisfactory outcome. The party is getting support from all sections of the society especially the youth and women. In fact people have expressed satisfaction about the developmental work, social security schemes which we initiated in the last five years despite financial crisis. I am very sure that they have decided to elect the party with two-third majority. I guess we are heading towards two-third mandate by the people because people want an able and stable government," he said.
